	Following the discovery phase, we conducted interviews with 8 users who had firsthand experience with pet adoption to gain insights into their journey and identify any pain points.

	PawMate's illustrations blend creativity and purpose, inspired by gamification and our dedication to crafting a vibrant environment for pets and their future owners. 	During this phase, we delved into HMW features, exploring various functionalities for the app to enhance the user experience. Our focus was on brainstorming and implementing features that would address specific user needs and contribute to a more comprehensive and engaging PawMate platform. Through this exploration, we sought to identify and integrate innovative solutions that would further enrich the pet adoption journey for our users.

02.Mid-Fi
 

	In the mid-fi phase, PawMate underwent rigorous testing and iteration, refining its features and design flows based on user feedback. We strategically tested, excluded, and included various features to optimize the overall user experience. The focus was on creating robust design flows for crucial aspects such as onboarding, the main page, pet search, and pet profiles. Through extensive user testing and multiple rounds of revision, we fine-tuned the interface, ensuring that it strikes the right balance between functionality and user-friendly navigation.

	During the hi-fi phase, our focus was on enhancing the visual appeal of PawMate by integrating advanced features. We prioritized micro-interactions, animations, branding design, and a comprehensive design system to ensure a seamless user experience and polished UI.

To harmonize with the gamification theme, we decided with a particular emphasis on the vibrant shade of green and Yellow. The “protective” green and “vibrant” yellow we chose for the brand's visual identity not only enhances aesthetic appeal but also serves as a meaningful symbol, resonating with the core values and mission of PawMate.

In shaping PawMate’s visual identity, our font choices were pivotal in reinforcing the brand's theme and design. We went for Leah Gaviota's playful cursive and Nunito's clean, modern style. Together, they strike a balance that adds charm and readability, enhancing the brand's overall vibe.

	Through multiple rounds of user testing, we strive to develop a rational and intuitive interactive design and animations that not only align with the gaming theme but also deliver the most engaging user experience.

	GamificationWith the PawMates introduction card design, we can utilize it in various situations, including the compare section, which evokes a 1 vs 1 Fighting Games vibe.
	

	Meanwhile, the subtle card-swiping micro- engagement mimics the experience of a dating app (or game, haha). By swiping the card in different directions, you can either express interest in the PawMates or hide them from future searches.

	By establishing a design system before we heading off to the Hi-Fi Prototype, it enables our team of three to collaborate seamlessly and stay on the same page even when working in different times and locations. A.Problem Discovery


	Communication apprehension (AKA social anxiety) is a degree or measure of the anxiety triggered by the real or anticipated communication act.


I chose this topic because it troubles me a lot. After my research, I was shocked to learn that many people are actually suffering from social anxiety.

	During my desk research, I delved deeply into the potential causes of social anxiety and the various symptoms that people experience. What I found is that the causes and symptoms of social anxiety can vary from person to person.
 Therefore, it's crucial to have customized functions that cater to each user's specific preferences. By doing so, the app can provide a personalized solution that can help users manage their social anxiety in their daily life.

	I conducted a competitive audit analyzing existing anxiety coping apps such as Calm, Headspace, and Youper with the aim of differentiating my product from theirs. 
While these apps have a large audio library, they lack personalization and target users in a general way. Therefore, I decided to approach the solution with a more customized experience for each user, based on their individual interests and audio preferences.


03. InterviewsTo gain insights into the various causes of anxiety, I conducted interviews with eight individuals and collected over 100 post-it notes. Through this process, I was able to generate 14 insights and 5 meta-insights, which led to the development of 5 HMW (How Might We) questions.
 The interviewees were primarily between the ages of 20 to 35, as I wanted to target the potential users of my product. I used the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) to identify interviewees who were introverted, as they are more likely to experience social anxiety.

	During the interviews, I asked the participants to complete two anxiety quizzes. At the beginning of the interview, they self-assessed their social anxiety level. Then, 30 minutes into the interview, they took the Liebowitz Anxiety Scale. 
The results varied greatly among the participants, highlighting the fact that many people may not be aware of their mental condition without the use of a professional scaling system. This information may also be a crucial element in developing my product.

02.Mid-Fidelity Sketches&#38;nbsp;


	For the mid-fi prototype, I decided to combine the earpiece and task assigning features. I chose to utilize the Apple product suite because the heart rate can be monitored with the Apple Watch and music can be played through AirPods.

	During this stage, I created three prototypes, which were user-tested with five interviewees. I collected 70 post-it notes and ultimately derived four key insights.

	The inspiration for the logo came from the combination of text bubbles and ocean waves, resulting in the whale icon.
 To create a calming vibe for the app, I opted for an all sans-serif, lowercase font. I also used a blue color palette that matched the ocean and whale theme.

The Fnji 2021 furniture collection annual launch event is centered around the theme of SOUTH · EAST · NORTH · WEST. One of the standout pieces in the collection is the Carousel Table, inspired by the traditional Chinese origami fortune teller game, known as 东南西北 (which means south, east, north, and west).

Initially, I experimented with various iterations of the origami's exact shape and form as a design element. However, I realized that these sketches were too straightforward for origami itself and decided to pivot to the pattern of the Carousel Table instead.

02.FINAL &#38;amp; MOTION

	
To maintain consistency with the theme, I used a combination of shadow and lines to create the illusion of three-dimensional folded paper on a two-dimensional medium during the launch event. This approach aimed to capture the essence of the tactile origami paper.

As the graphic designer, I created the poster collection, incorporating Fnji's aesthetic preferences into a cohesive, visually appealing series that reflects wabi-sabi and minimalism.
Throughout the design process, I worked closely with the team at Fnji to understand their aesthetic preferences and incorporate them into my designs.

	The first step is problems discovering, I went through the original website, since it’s my first time doing this, I just tried to find out what irritates me intuitively, and analyze the reason why it doesn’t make sense to me.

01.Usability Heuristics&#38;nbsp;


	I listed the problems I found and graded them following the Jakob’s 10 Usability Heuristics. There are some minor problems like the typo, some inconsistent buttons, but the two major problems I discover is the unclear branding and the lengthy forms which keep users away.

02. Adjacent industry audit&#38;nbsp;


	After finding these two major problems, I started to look into adjacent industry to get more idea of what are others in the industry doing. The two main websites I chose is duolingo and khan, both of them embrace their brand identity and visual style very well.

	Based on my graphic background, I started to focus on the unclear branding of this website and try to provide a solution using visual design.

	I make the form detailed but concise to solve the bounce rate and set the brand identity cute and friendly.

	 I incorporate this golden color because it usually symbolizes success and achievement, which is what users want to get from a tutor website, and I have all the button and elements rounded and mellow to be more approachable.

 I want it to be more direct and simple to reduce the bounce rate, users directly book tutor on the info page and doesn’t have to create an account. And the branding style will be simple and linear to create a professional mood.

C.User Testing


01.Interview


	Through the usability tests, I learned what the target users really want, and what directions they prefer. 

I interviewed four people in total, they are people around 20 and 30 who used to work as a tutor before or have experience with a tutor in the past, it definitely helped me to know more about what users focus more on when they are choosing their own tutors.

02.Synthesis


 Based on the feedback I received during the interview, I felt it was important to utilize annotations with emojis to better express users' emotions towards a specific action. This approach enabled me to understand and grasp their thoughts and feelings more effectively. Additionally, I created a user emotion journey map based on their feedback, which provided valuable insights into the interviewer's reactions.

If the feedback received was positive, I utilized a smiley face emoji to represent it. In instances where constructive criticism was provided, I used a thinking emoji to indicate that there were areas for improvement. Similarly, if the feedback contained helpful and innovative ideas, I employed a light bulb emoji to represent them.

D.Hi-Fidelity Prototype


	I have refined the branding by creating a logo that features the initials 'T' and 'O'. The 'T' is designed to resemble an open book, while the 'O' is in the shape of a magnifying glass. The slogan for the brand is 'One-to-One Tutoring for Every Student'.

01.Reflections

	I have gained familiarity with the UI/UX project process and have become a lot more proficient in the relevant software. During interviews, I have learned to avoid being defensive and instead focus on listening actively to feedback. Additionally, I have realized the importance of thinking broadly at the beginning of a project in order to avoid narrow solutions and explore a wider range of possibilities.

02.Next Steps

	To improve the website, I plan to refine the branding even more, including the use of original illustrations to create a unique visual identity. I also intend to accentuate the discount offers more prominently on the home page to attract more customers. To ensure a smooth user experience, I would love to conduct more rounds of usability testing to identify and address any issues that may arise.

The National Alliance on Mental Health is my senior project aimed at raising awareness of mental illness.Mental health and substance use disorders affect around 13% of the world's population and have been exacerbated by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. In the United States, the outbreak has already affected the mental health of 59% of people.
To help illustrate the negative emotions associated with mental health issues, I decided to use only typography in my designs. &#38;nbsp;

Using visual imagery to raise awareness about mental health and depression can be an effective way to reach a large audience. I use the image of a brain as a cloud and a sun to represent mental health and positive emotions respectively as a metaphoric way to convey the importance of taking care of our mental well-being.

I used typography to express the different emotions on different layers. They will gradually lay on top of each other and depict a chaotic scene which is how people have depression feel inward.
